A Unique, Multidisciplinary Approach to Pain Management

Degenerative Disc Disease and Chiropractic Care

When you think of someone saying, “I’m getting old…” How do you picture them, I am guessing most of you picture someone holding their lower back, or stuggling to get out of a chair because of… Back Pain! Don’t wait for the symptoms to have you saying those very words- fix it before it starts! That is why Chicago Chiropractic is here to help!

The words “degenerative disc disease” sounds like a serious illness, when in actuality it is not a disease at all. This condition is what causes the pain and stiffness in your back. As we know our spine is made up of many vertebrae, well spinal discs are the separators between each individual vertebra to act as cushions and allow more flexibility. So it only makes sense that if these “cushions” get flat and thin, there is a problem occurring between those vertebrae! No matter how healthy, athletic, flexible you are- none of us can prevent these discs from deteriorating. By the time we reach middle age, most of us have already degenerating discs- some of us may not even feel the pain yet.

Some patients with severe Degenerative Disc Disease fear that chiropractic care is not safe for them. However, no matter how light or severe your level of pain is, Chiropractic physicians are specially trained to evaluate each circumstance and create a special plan of treatments for each patient. Here at Chicago Chiropractic we are skilled in a wide range of conservative, non-surgical therapies, using low-force, non-thrusting techniques in situations involving disc adjustment and manipulation. We also focus on addressing back pain at its source by improving the spine’s stability and mobility in order to strengthen surrounding muscles and eliminate inflammation.
